Jenna Bourguignon
Degree and Year: Bachelor of Commerce, Honours, Concentration in Marketing and Managing People and Organizations, 2011
Experience: I have always had a passion for planning events. Starting in High School, I was a member of the prom committee and helped to organize a number of charity events for my school. In that same time, I worked part time at a movie theatre, where I helped plan and run numerous movie promotions and family fun days for the theatre. When I started University, it seemed only right to continue with my passion. So, I joined the Sprott Business Student’s Society, and in 4th year got to be the Special Events Chair, organizing the 2 largest events for the Society. In my 5th, and final year at Carleton, I was the Academic Events Chair, allowing me to switch gears a little bit and organized more structured and academically focused events. During this 5th year of university, I also assumed a part time job as the Event Assistant for a large medical firm in Ottawa, the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA). Upon graduation, I started full time with the CMPA, helping to plan national educational events for doctors across Canada as well as fun corporate events for the organization. I look forward to a career in event management and am proud of the building blocks that have gotten me to the position I am in today.
How’d you get here? During my time at Carleton, I was incredibly involved in Sprott in different capacities. I was a member of the Sprott Business Student’s Society for 3 years and loved every minute! I made so many life long friends and memories at Sprott, I figured it was only fair to give a little back to the school and the community that gave me so much. As a volunteer at the first ever JDCC in 2010, and as a case participant in 2011, I got to understand the unforgetable feeling you get from being a part of something bigger than yourself. When Carleton won the bid to host JDCC 2012, I knew that there was no turning back. With my LOVE for Ottawa and Carleton University and my passion for event planning, it was a perfect fit! You could say JDCC 2012 and I were in love at first cheer!!
Responsibilities for JDCC 2012: My responsibilities for JDCC 2012 are to help make the night events the most memorable and amazing experience for all delegates! More specifically, in conjunction with my Co-VP Events, Jessica Ruston, we will be exceeding your every expectation and ultimately, blowing your mind! My individual responsibilities include all day Friday. I want to make your first impression of Ottawa and JDCC 2012 unforgetable. I will be organizing the Buffer Zone, the opening ceremonies and the friday night event; all of which with be super fun! After Friday, I will be Jessica Ruston’s wing women (if you will) for the Saturday evening, Disney event, as well as the Sunday night closing Gala! JDCC is a weekend that will change your life and we hope that in 2012, our night events will help you build memories that with last a lifetime!
What is your favorite Disney movie? My favorite Disney movie of all time has to be Aladdin! I was obsessed as a child, even going as Jasmine numerous times for Halloween (even if I was forced to wear a winter coat under my costume- making me look like a bloated, obese Princess) My love for Aladdin continued through high school, when for my best friends 16th birthday, I thought it was a GREAT idea to buy her the limited addition Aladdin DVD (which came with a sing-along version)… she didn’t think it was so great, perhaps that was more of a present for me, not her. Even in my Grade 12 philosophy class, my 2 friends and I were determined to relate every philosophical theory to Aladdin in some way. My teacher thought it was genius for our first presentation, but by number 6, we had pretty much showed the class the entire movie. And besides, how can you get a better Disney movie than one where the main character has his shirt off the whole time and the female lead is in see-through pants and a cut-off top! Come on now!!
