What is JDC Central?
JDC Central is a three day event that showcases academic competitions, athletic challenge, and social competition, as well as a charity initiative. This year, the competition will be hosted by Carleton University and the Sprott School of Business in Ottawa, Ontario.
Delegates will compete in academic case analyses, parliamentary style debates, sports tournaments and social competitions that will test school spirit, teamwork and determination. The team that performs the best overall will take home the prestigious title of “School of the Year.”
History
“Jeux du Commerce” (Commerce Games) has witnessed tremendous success since its inception in Quebec in 1989. Over the course of its 22 years, it has become a prestigious annual event that brings together over 1200 of the top business students from across Quebec. Due to the success of Jeux du Commerce in the East, the competition began its expansion to the rest of the country. In 2006, the inaugural competition out West was held in Vancouver under a new name: JDC West.
After four successful years in British Columbia and Alberta, the competition grew again into Ontario, where it was hosted by the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University in January 2010. The games were a great success in Ontario with over 300 students from nine schools participating.
Now in its third year, JDC Central has moved to Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. The 2012 games will host over 400 students from ten schools and will continue the legacy of academic integrity and competitive excellence.
