Throughout October, teams held their Groovin’ for Charity events in support of their local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter. For hours upon end, teams moved in malls, strut their stuff on sidewalks and boogied at barbeques trying to raise the most money while having a blast. The OC loved the team updates and was thrilled to see some of the videos that popped up afterwards. Check out the links below to see what some of the schools were up to!

It’s that time of year…that’s right, it’s November and there are moustaches out in full force! For those of you who haven’t had the distinct privilege of encountering the vast number of upper lip warmers that are walking the street, “Movember” is a charity that challenges men across the world to grow a ‘stache and become a Mo Bro to raise awareness for men’s health, in particular prostate cancer. Since the beginning of the campaign in 2004, Movember has gone global and has expanded to even include Mo Sistas!

Just like the past two years, JDCC teams have taken on the challenge and are sporting more moustaches than ever before. Who will raise the most money? Which team will have the most Mo Bros? But most importantly, who will have the ultimate moustache? Stay tuned for November 30 – you may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a picture or two!

Do you have a Mo Bro team? Send your links and pics to VP Communications Kaitlyn Platt at Kaitlyn.Platt@jdccentral.ca

Degree and Year: Bachelor of Commerce, Information Systems – Graduated

Experience: JDCC Carleton Captain 2010, JDCC Carleton 2011 Co-Captain, Happening Marketing 2009 – Sports Competitor, Professional Buffalo Hunter 2009 – Present, Multiple out of body experiences starting at ECLR 09.

How’d you get here? Well, 5 years ago I hopped on a plane leaving Victoria BC, and arrived here in Ottawa as a baby-faced first year. Since then I would like to think it has been a simple and logical journey up until this point; a climb to the top, if you will. After being so heavily involved with JDC Central on the Carleton campus for the past two years I was terrified by prospect of graduating and giving up the JDCC dream. Thankfully being a part of the OC has allowed me the opportunity to stay involved with this amazing competition. Needless to say, JDCC is having a tough time getting rid of me!

Responsibilities for JDCC 2012: My co-chair, Christine Jackson, and I are responsible to making sure that JDC Central is the most unbelievable weekend ever. Whether that is ensuring that we maximize the number of out of body experience or that Party Rock Anthem is played as often as possible, my job is to make JDCC unforgettable. In particular though, I am responsible for the internal operations of JDCC including sports, social, debate, academics, logistics and events. If it is happening the competition weekend, my team and I are responsible for it.

What is your favorite Disney movie? That is a tough question. I am a pretty big Disney fan and enjoy all of the movies. But, I suppose if I were to pick one over any of the others I would have to say Lion King. It has a great story, unreal characters and an awesome musical score. Plus as my friends can attest to the fact that I love singing the Circle of Life (but mostly just the opening section of it!)

Experience: First Year Representative for the Sprott Business Students’ Society (SBSS) 2010-2011, Sprott Ambassador 2010-2011, Winner of the 2010-2011 SBSS Internal Case Competition, Member of the Sprott International Business Association

How’d you get here? When I first heard about JDCC 2011 it was too late to try out for any of the teams, but I was really excited about the competition. During JDCC 2011 I followed our team daily, who did an amazing job, and really wanted to get myself involved with the competition. I was planning on continuing with SBSS, but when we were chosen as the host school for 2012, I could not give up this amazing opportunity to help showcase our great school and passionate students.

Responsibilities for JDCC 2012: My responisibilities for JDCC 2012 are to give recommendations to other OC members to help make the competition as environmentally friendly as possible. I am also responsible for organizing proper waste disposal/recycling and raise awareness about the garbage and pollution created throughout the competition.

What is your favorite Disney movie? The Lion King. What can I say, one the best movies ever! Its got crazy characters and great music. When I was younger I’d watch it almost every day, but always stop it at the part where Mufasa gets killed by Scar, it was too sad.

The JDC Central OC is proud to announce our other new addition to the 2012 competition, the University of Guelph College of Management and Economics. Like the University of New Brunswick, Guelph will be competing for the prestigious Half Delegation of the Year Award. Rumour has it that their team has been picked and that they have great plans for their charity and social initiatives this year so we look forward to seeing what they’ve been up to in January. Under the leadership of their two fearless leaders, Alexis and Chelsea, we expect big things! On behalf of the JDCC OC, we wish Guelph the best of luck and we welcome them on board!
